User Policy for Technological Resources


IT User Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all users understand their privileges and responsibilities in relation to the computer, network, and Internet resources provided by the seminary. Use of these resources signifies your understanding of, and agreement to, this policy.

Violations of this policy may result in suspension of privileges and/or other disciplinary action as set out in the catalog and employment and faculty manuals. If you have questions or require clarification about any of the provisions of this policy, please contact the Director of Information Systems.

Campus Computer Resources

Westminster Theological Seminary provides computer and network resources to students in support of their academic work. The seminary provides students with a unique username and password in order to access Westminster's network, including the student information system (Self-Service) and learning management system (Courses).

Computer Lab

A computer lab, located on the lower level of the Andreas Center, is available for all registered students. Students may occasionally use the lab for personal purposes, unless it prevents others from using the resources for academic work.

All users of the computer lab must abide by the guidelines posted in the lab. Anyone requiring assistance in the lab should contact the Help Desk. Tampering with cabling or equipment, installation or upgrading software, or attempted modification to workstation system settings, is strictly prohibited.


Printers located in the Andreas computer lab and Van Til student mailroom are provided to support students in their academic work. Students may not print more than 40 pages in any day.

Public Access Workstations
Public access workstations in the library are provided to support library patrons in accessing library resources, and these workstations may not be used for any other purpose. Printing from public access workstations in the library is exclusively for search results.


The computer and audio-visual equipment in the classrooms is for faculty use only. Students may only use this equipment as part of a class with faculty supervision.

All users are to handle the computer resources provided by the seminary with care. Users may not attempt to repair, upgrade, or perform any type of maintenance on WTS equipment unless permission has been granted by the Information Technology Department. The Help Desk is to be contacted immediately ( with any computer equipment issue.



Students have access to the Internet through the campus wi-fi system and the student lab. Students may not log into any seminary workstation outside of those provided in the computer lab. Network accesses may be monitored.

Wesminster provides email accounts ( to students. All official seminary communication is directed to the student email address. Students are expected to read, respond, and archive all official correspondence from the seminary and to use the student account for all correspondence with seminary offices.

Acceptable Use

All users are expected to use network resources in a manner consistent with civil regulations and laws, and biblical standards and honoring to Christ. Students may not share email or network passwords with anyone, at any time. Chain letters or messages for personal financial gain, promotion, advertising, or commercial activity are prohibited. Messages that contain profane, sexually explicit, or degrading language are prohibited and may be grounds for disciplinary action.

Westminster Theological Seminary expects all students to act appropriately at all times and in a manner consistent with the mission to which God has called the seminary. Actions that are unacceptable in other settings are also unacceptable on seminary resources, including 1) harassment in any form; 2) usage related to pornography and racially derogatory, discriminating, threatening or abusive communication; 3) failure to respect the property and rights of others; 4) forgery or other misrepresentation of one's identity; and 5) distribution of of any material without the permission of the copyright owner; 6) attempting to gain unauthorized access to any system, on or off campus; 7) sharing email or network username and password with others.

Breaches of this policy could result in penalties up to and including dismissal from enrollment in educational programs.
