Annual Preaching Conference

October 23-24 - The 2007 Institute on Biblical Preaching will be held on the Glenside, PA campus on the theme “Getting ‘The Story’ Right: Preaching Biblical Narrative.”

Doriani Biblical narratives convey lessons about life…more important still, they describe the redemptive acts of God – His acts on behalf of His people, and His covenant loyalty to them. They are stories – and so much more.”

The keynote speaker is Westminster alumnus Dan Doriani (Ph.D., M.Div., Westminster Theological Seminary; S.T.M., Yale University). He is the Senior Pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri.

Seminars will be given by…

Tuck Bartholomew (Ph.D., University of Georgia; M.Div., Westminster Theological Seminary) who is the Organizing Pastor of City Church, a church plant in the University City neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA;

James Garretson (D.Min., Westminster Theological seminary California; M.Div., M.T.S., Regent College) who has recently been appointed as Assistant Professor of practical theology at Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale, FL;

Carl Trueman (Ph.D., University of Aberdeen; M.A., St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge) who is Academic Dean and Professor of historical theology and church history at Westminster Theological Seminary. In addition, he is a member of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, a monthly columnist for www.Reformation21.com , and regular columnist for the monthly publication of the Free Church of Scotland.

An Alumni Reunion Dinner as well as prospective student events will also be held Wednesday, October 24 at 5:00 PM. Click here to view the conference brochure for more information.

"Westminster exists to glorify God by forming ministers of the Gospel who are 'specialists in the Bible,' whose understanding of the Word of God has produced in their hearts 'holy affection' for their Lord, and who, in their interpretation and proclamation of the Scriptures, lead Christ's church in faithful worship and global ministry."

From the desk of Daniel A. Cason: “As the Director of Admissions, the most frequently asked question I hear about our seminary is, ‘How do you prepare people spiritually and practically given your rigorous academic commitments?’ Westminster is unashamedly committed to both ‘solid learning’ and ‘piety of the heart,’ as the Old Princeton faculty used to say.

“In order to understand Westminster's commitment to both academic excellence and spiritual nurture, it is helpful to understand that this has been the commitment of the church and her centers of learning throughout history.

“The monasteries of the Middle Ages, though often misunderstood, were committed to a combination of serious study and a holy life. They refused to separate sapientia (wisdom) from scientia (study); and it was the scientia sacrae scripturae (the study of sacred Scripture), that was their primary preoccupation. Life and doctrine were and are inextricably related.”
