Dr. Kendall with the Lord

Alumnus, Rev. Dr. Walton Romefelt Kendall (MAR, MDiv '83) died on Monday, September 12, 2011.

Dr. Kendall was a pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Sumter, SC.  He served as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America for 26 years.  He is survived by his wife Robin, his mother, and two sons.

The Rev. Dr. Walton Romefelt Kendall, 56, beloved husband of Robin Strassner Kendall, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born July 7, 1955, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, he was a son of Mary Romefelt Kendall and the late Eugene Hammett Kendall.

Dr. Kendall was the senior pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church and previously an associate pastor at Lakemont Presbyterian Church in Augusta, GA. He served as an associate pastor in Ocala, FL and organizing pastor in Greensboro, NC.  He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and Religion.  He also received a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Arts in Religion from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, PA, a Masters of Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH and a Doctorate of Ministry from Covenant Seminary, St. Louis, MO.  He served as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church of America for 26 years. Throughout his life he has served locally on many boards, groups and ministries, most recently at the Light of Hope Pregnancy Center in Sumter, SC as Chairman of the Board.

Surviving are his wife, Robin Strassner Kendall of Sumter; his mother Mary Romefelt Kendall of Raleigh, NC; two sons, Will Kendall and wife Margaret of Lomé, Togo, West Africa and Michael Kendall and wife Sienna of Chattanooga, TN; one daughter, Sarabeth Kendall of Sumter; two brothers, Gene Kendall and wife Heidi of Alexandria, VA and Richard Kendall and wife Elizabeth of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Janet Bickel and husband Mark and Peggy Barker and husband Scott all of Raleigh, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

A Celebratory Service of Worship honoring the life of Rev. Dr. Walt Kendall was held at 11 AM Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stuart Mizelle and Rev. Dr. John Wade Long, Jr. officiating.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors and nurses of St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC.
