Dr. Jue Appointed Provost

At their May 2013 meeting, the Westminster Theological Seminary Board of Trustees voted to elect Dr. Jeffrey K. Jue as Provost & Executive Vice President, beginning July 1.

Below is a short interview with Dr. Jue, discussing his new role.
What is a Provost?
When the senior administration first began to discuss this new role, Dr. Lillback looked up the word “Provost” and discovered that one of the original meanings was “keeper of the jail”. Thankfully, that is not what we envisioned. In most academic institutions the Provost is the second-ranking administrative officer behind the president. Westminster’s Provost will oversee the entire administration, as well as the faculty.
Why does Westminster need a Provost?
Today seminaries in America have tremendous opportunities for advancing theological education, and at the same time they are faced with enormous challenges. Westminster is no different, and our President shoulders the huge task of both setting the strategic direction of our seminary and raising the necessary financial resources to sustain our operations. The Provost position was created to assist the President by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the seminary, which will give the President more ability to promote and advance the mission of Westminster.
What are some of the things you would like to focus on as Provost?
There are number of things I would like to focus on to help Westminster be a more effective seminary, prepared to serve the global church in the twenty-first century:
- Greater support for the faculty to encourage them to be excellent scholars and teachers.
- Curriculum improvements, which maintain our historic distinctives, but also address the educational requirements for ministry in the twenty-first century.
- Enhancing student services, including more efficient administrative support, utilizing new technologies, and upgrading our educational facilities.
