Westminster Art Week

May 06, 2009

This past week at Westminster, May 4-8, the walls of Van Til were more colorful and pleasing to the eye, thanks in part to the plethora of work submitted by students of apologetics professor Dr. Edgar's Faith and the Arts course as well as the greater Westminster community who presented the Westminster Art Week.

On display were various painting, photographs, and sculpture pieces, that exhibited the many talents of our student body. On Tuesday May 5, the Westminster community gathered for a reception and enjoyed light refreshments and live musical performances.

Westminster Art Week was concieved by Phil Coffin (M.Div '09), a student in the course, who organized the event. Art week brought what was taught in the classroom to the rest of the seminary. The class seeks to bring to light the dynamics of art and how one can arrive at a reformed view of aesthetics. Dr. Edgar teaches how Scripture speaks about the arts and how to develop convictions about the proper role of the arts in daily life.

Westminster Art Week wonderfully gave the Westminster community a greater awareness of the role of the arts in worship.
