Treasures of God's Word

January 11, 2010

Good preaching and doctrinal teaching get a bad rap in the public eye.  It’s boring, ignorant, irrelevant, weak and foolish.  But “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men”  (1 Corinthians 1:25, ESV).

Since the days of Paul, the “foolish” method and content of preaching have simply not been in vogue, but contrary to popular wisdom, the proclaimed Word remains God’s invincible tool for prying open hearts and minds, revealing the power of the cross of the crucified, resurrected Christ.

Since 1929, Westminster’s faculty and alumni have mined and dispensed the treasures of God’s Word from lecterna and pulpits around the world.  This “foolish” task remains both our great responsibility and great privilege, and by the aid of modern technology, the preaching of Christ from ages past and present speaks now for ages to come.

We are most pleased to have surpassed the 1000 mark in our growing Westminster audio archives, which are available to the public absolutely free.

Faithful preaching is never boring, ignorant, irrelevant, weak or foolish.  Because it is God’s Word and God’s method, it is simply still the case that preaching and teaching God’s Word changes lives forever.  So now 20 centuries later, we continue to preach; we continue to teach.

For Paul declaring the whole counsel of God was confined to synagogues and street corners; yet his preaching changed the world.  To that same world, we now preach God’s Word from a dynamic website.

May God see fit to take the preaching of Christ electronically and to change the world eternally.  After all, as Paul put it, “it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe” (1 Corinthians 1:21b).
