Our keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Wells, WTS MDiv 1972 and sytematic theology professor at the Faculte Libre de Theologie in Aix-en-Provence, France. His lecture is titled: "The Lasting Significance of Ernst Troeltsch." He founded the Reformed Seminary in Aix with Rev. Pierre Courthial in 1972. He is also the President of the Federation of Francophone Evangelical Theologians.

Born in Liverpool, England, in 1946, he studied at Liverpool University (B.A., M.A.) and at Westminster (M.Div., 1972). He founded the Reformed Seminary in Aix with Rev. Pierre Courthial. He teaches systematic theology, has lived in Aix-en-Provence in southern France since 1972, and is president of the Federation of Francophone Evangelical Theologians.

His doctoral thesis at the Free University of Amsterdam, James Barr and the Bible: Critique of a New Liberalism, was published in 1980. Works in French include books on the doctrine of Scripture and the Christian life, the words of Christ from the cross, commentaries on the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostles’ creed, a student’s introduction to the Christian faith.

Cross Words is an atonement study in English, French and Dutch. Recently completing a new translation of Calvin’s Institutes in modern French, he also wrote English articles on Christ’s cry of dereliction, The Forgotten Christ, and the humanity of Scripture, Reforming or Conforming.

Editor of La Revue Réformée, an evangelical journal, since 1982, he is also responsible for Éditions Kerygma, publishing Reformed literature, Calvin’s NT commentaries in modernized French and confessional texts like the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort and the Westminster Confession.

Married to Alison since 1970, they have three adult children.
